Newlywed Husband's Hit-and-Run Death on Honeymoon Leads to Florida Couple's Arrest Years Later

More than two years ago, a newlywed husband and honeymooner were driving through the Daytona Beach region when they were involved in a fatal hit-and-run highway incident. The pair from Florida is facing charges in this case.

The two people who were detained on Tuesday were Jeffrey Stephen Brannan, 32, and Megan Nichole Brannan, 33. Both abandoning the scene of a crash that resulted in death and one that included major injuries are accusations made against the wife. Allegations of accessory after the fact are made against the husband.

On September 12, 2021, at 11:13 p.m., there was a collision on Interstate 95 close to LPGA Boulevard, as reported by FMPA.

According to state police and The Daytona Beach News-Journal, at that moment, a 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling south on the entrance ramp when it attempted to join in the “direct path” of a 2019 Dodge RAM truck. The car’s driver was supposedly Brannan. The truck contained Christopher Coffey, 29, and Mary Coffey, his wife.

The right rear end of the pickup was clipped by the left front end of the automobile, according to the authorities. The truck fared far worse, but the Charger spun off on the road, the highway patrol reported. The truck repeatedly flipped over, hit a utility post, traveled down an embankment, and eventually came to rest in a drainage ditch. It then proceeded down the grass shoulder.

Estimates from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the truck rolled eight or ten times.

Following that, according to authorities, the Charger ran south. There were major injuries to both Coffeys.

Christopher Coffey’s father, Joel Coffey, stated to Orlando-based CBS station WKMG in September 2021, “He had just married his high school sweetheart, they had been dating on and off for about 10 years.”

According to Mary Coffey’s sister, they got married on September 11, 2021, the day before, according to a GoFundMe.

When this occurred, Allison Moore stated in the campaign, “Chris suffered injuries to his brain.” The medical bills that I have at this moment are unforeseen and excessive. Please spread the word, make a donation, or simply remember our family and friends. Two days later, on Saturday, Mary and Chris experienced their happiest day ever and their darkest. As a spouse, a brother, an uncle, and a son, Chris is the finest guy. His being my brother is such a blessing. Everything we want to do is lend a hand.

From Whitesburg, Tennessee, the couple had just tied the knot. Fortunately, Mary Coffey’s injuries weren’t serious enough to be fatal. At the Halifax Health Medical Center, Christopher Coffey passed away from his wounds after six days.

Christopher Coffey departed on Saturday, September 18, according to an update from Moore. He was surrounded by his best buddy Jordan, his wife Mary, and his parents Joel and Angie. Today, a lot of hearts are broken. Chris became your family rather than simply your friend. His generosity, ambition, and ability to make others laugh are well-documented. His legacy will go on and Chris will always be a part of our memories.

Details regarding the subsequent inquiry into the catastrophe are few. The driver and passenger of the automobile that struck the truck were identified, according to a press release by state troopers sent to WKMG.

Moore said to Orlando-based Fox affiliate WOFL in 2021, “The crazy thing is, it was a brand new, giant truck.” “The truck was enormous.” The truck’s ability to flip that much was made possible by whatever transpired.

On Tuesday afternoon, Megan Brannan posted her $75,000 bond to be released from the Volusia County Jail. Right now, Orange County Jail is holding Jeffrey Brannan on a $50,000 bail.

Iran Executes 'Child Bride' Convicted of Husband's Murder Despite Global Appeals for Mercy

Human rights organizations had urged for mercy, but on Wednesday an Iranian lady who had been forced into marriage as a child and was imprisoned for killing her husband was put to death.

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO), a Norwegian organization, claims that Samira Sabzian was hung at Ghezelhesar Prison.

Sabzian was the victim of “gender apartheid, child marriage, and domestic violence,” according to IHRNGO Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam.

“[T]he murdering machine of the corrupt and inept dictatorship claimed her life today. A tyranny that has survived only by murdering people and inciting terror,” Amiry-Moghaddam said in a statement. “Ali Khamenei and other leaders of the Islamic Republic must be held accountable for this crime.”

Sabzian was imprisoned for ten years after her husband’s murder. According to IHRNGO, Sabzian suffered from domestic abuse and was coerced into marriage at the age of 15. At the time of her arrest, she was the mother of two small children, one of whom was a newborn. For a decade, Sabzian was separated from them until they visited the prison to bid her farewell before her execution.

“Alarmed” by the execution, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ office expressed.

“We again urge Iran to establish a moratorium on all executions to abolish the death penalty,” according to the office.

According to IHRNGO, Iran has carried out about 200 executions of women since 2010, making it one of the countries that executes the most women worldwide. Even in situations of domestic abuse and violence, women are not entitled to divorce; in more than half of those cases, the women were found guilty of killing their husbands.

New Jersey Highway Crash Involving 13 Cars Results in Injuries, Fuel Leak from Tractor Trailer

According to accounts, on Tuesday night, a jackknifed tractor-trailer spilled diesel fuel across the highway and into the Passaic River, causing a 13-car pileup. According to sources, police and emergency personnel from New Jersey came to the scene.

A jackknifed tractor-trailer is seen obstructing both lanes of traffic in the Freedom News TV footage of the incident. A further view shows a firefighter from Paterson, New Jersey, sledding across a black ice-covered roadway.

A car on a flatbed tow truck with its entire rear end shattered and all of its airbags deployed is also seen in the footage.

A portion of the road flooded while Sarvjeet Singh, who was interviewed for the video, was driving. Before coming to a section of the road that was frozen, he indicated that he and other cars had driven through.

As more automobiles started crashing into one another, he continued, “All of a sudden they couldn’t control their cars.” He then pulled into a driveway. “I found out before that, there was a tractor-trailer that got hit by a car and there was a bad injury there.”

He noticed as he pulled into the driveway that the automobiles were smashing behind him.

He believed something was wrong with his brakes after driving through the water, but then he began to slip and discovered the road was slick.

Crushed bumpers, flat tires, broken lamps, and dented fenders are among the damaged cars seen in more footage that is captured on the black ice.

Cars were pointing in the direction opposite to the flow of traffic, and some cars were sideways on the road.

Additionally, fluid-cleaning crews were observed underneath the tractor-trailer. They were observed shoveling and sweeping a quick-dry material that is meant to absorb fluids like oil and other substances that can pollute the environment or create dangerous circumstances on routes.

On camera, a crew member is seen pointing to an area and inquiring as to whether it contained diesel. Photo evidence indicated that the tractor-trailer’s fuel tank was dented, resulting in fuel spilling onto the roadway.

Roadway sanding was done by salt trucks following the collision. Photos posted on the Paterson Police Department’s Facebook page depict officers responding to a coastal storm that passed through the region on Monday, which resulted in significant flooding and hazardous drivers.

EMS arrived and declared the children who had received assistance dead on the spot. An unidentified woman reported to authorities that her kids were throwing up and that she might have given them Tylenol.

No foul play is suspected by the police. Chief of Detectives for the New York Police Department Joseph Kenny stated that all reports show the mother was “well engaged with everything to do with these children.”

“She was an active participant with their medical care, an active participant in their schooling,” he stated. Their family was calm and caring, and neighbors claimed she was a devoted mother. Right now, it just seems like a medical disaster until the medical examiner says otherwise.”

The NYPD informs Fox News Digital that the cause of death will be ascertained by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The probe is still going strong.
