In 2021, 25 companies received letters from public shareholders stating that their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs violated investors’ rights to equal treatment and were illegal discrimination. As a result, at least six of these major U.S. companies, including JPMorgan Chase, revised their diversity policies.

Removing language that said certain initiatives were for members of underrepresented groups or changing the leaders’ objectives for boosting racial diversity in the workforce were the primary modifications made by the corporations, according to Reuters. Reuters could uncover no publicly known revisions for the other 19 companies that received shareholder letters regarding the legality of the corporations’ DEI projects. After issuing their latest annual reports, which detailed some of the contentious policies, a few of those corporations received emails from shareholders.

Five of JPMorgan’s DEI initiatives were allegedly unlawful and discriminatory, according to a letter the bank received in May 2022. Reuters was able to see archived copies of the corporate website and discovered that the bank’s “Advancing Hispanics & Latinos” and “Advancing Black Pathways” programs had their descriptions altered around February 2023.

The Rock Tavern, New York warehouse where Williams works has a flyer at the bottom that employees spotted. Peccy is an orange blob-like creature that represents the internet shopping behemoth.
